salvaging the floors under glued down hardwoods

The idoit who owned our house before us glued hardwoods directly onto beautiful pine wood floors in the kitchen and dining area (and covered the rest of the pine with carpet throughout the rest of the house). We were very pleased and shocked when we took up the carpet and saw the floors and have since sanded and stained them and they are beautiful! But as we are ripping up the glued down hardwoods in the kitchen and dining area, it is destroying the floors underneath.

Is there any way to remove the glued down hardwoods and salvage the floors underneath?

Taking it up the way you're doing it will trash the floor underneath.
Take a circular saw and set the blade 1/8" shallower then the top floor. Make a series of cuts in the floor and pry up small pieces at a time. Always put pressure on the top floor when prying or you'll damage the pine under it. The floor you're removing looks to be a multi-ply material. If you set the blade correctly, the last ply will still be stuck to the flooring. Use a sander with a 60 grit paper to sand through the last ply
The tricky part will be the adhesive. You can try to sand through it, but it might clog up the paper too quickly. Or you can try to get the bulk of it off with solvent or a heat gun. Both of these are hazzardous and should be done with extreme care. Have fire extinguishers at the ready.
