Reversing a fiberglass door?

Hi,

We are considering buying two used fiberglass doors at a local ReStore to replace our existing double doors. Both of the doors are hinged the same way, so one will need to be reversed.

Two questions:

1) is it possible to trim fiberglass doors so that they will fit in the existing doorway, or would it be better to re-hang the doors?

2) is it possible to remove a lock set from a fiberglass door and fill in the holes - and have it look like nothing was there?

3) Bonus question: anything else that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks,
Jon

The doors don't modify well if at all without looking like crap. Filling in holes in fiberglass requires a skill set so it doesn't look botched. Wood doors are better suited to the things you want to do.

In addition to the lockset bore, the bevel on the edge of one door will be wrong. That will leave you with some really odd gaps at the hinge edge and the latch edge of the door.

I agree. Trying to retrofit doors not made for that opening usually ends with bad looking doors and the energy efficiency goes way down. Don't skimp on a double front door setup, get a prehung unit.
