Retrofit drawer slides help!

I’m replacing my old kitchen drawer side mounted rollers that are worn (built in the 90s). I was looking to use the KV 8400 on some drawers and 8450 soft close on others. However I discovered the drawer boxes are 21” and the cabinets are 24”. I’ll have to use front and rear brackets for most of the slides to mount them. This is my first time doing this type of project but I’m pretty handy.

How will I mount the slides with a 3 inch gap? Do I get 21”, 22” or 23” slides? I want the drawer to open the full length of drawer. I know the slide length should be the length of the drawer box but what should I do in this case with a 3” gap plus use soft close slides on some drawers. Should I consider an overtravel slide in this case vs full length? Do I need to mount a wood strip in the back to make up the gap? Any help would be great to plan my attack!

Actually I have KV 1300 slides currently which are 3/4 ext. So I would expect the 8400 to be not too much additional work to replace..?
