Replacing oven door glass

The interior glass on my 20-year-old Admiral range (ModelABP35400) has cracked and a chunk has slipped out. I have been all over the internet searching to purchase a replacement, to no avail. The part is just too old, according to Sears. My question: Will tempered glass cut to fit work? I checked with my local glass shop, but the son has taken over from his Dad and doesn't know if a special heat-tolerant glass is needed or not. The oven is self-cleaning, so the glass will have to be high-temp tolerant. Thanks for any assistance.

I don't think regular tempered glass will withstand the heat.

You might see if Corning has a customer support number or email address for possible recommendations.

Have you tried a used appliance store or even Habitat for Humanity ReStore to see if but sheer luck you might find a replacement there?

Just for fun, I tried to see if I could find you something. That model number did not seem to correspond to anything Admiral but maybe it is just too old. I did find this site. Perhaps one of the glass panels would work? The chat function was very responsive.

If you have to replace seals and everything it looks like this project might cost you $250 for the parts. Sure it is not time to think about a new unit? It is sad we are a disposable culture but that is a lot to sink into a 20 year old appliance? If it is self-cleaning all the oven door seals are probably do for replacement.

May I make a cheap suggestion? Those doors lift right off without tools---I'd be looking for a used door---Our local Menards sells used stoves for $20----Craigs list might have a listing for an old stove that matches----alert your local appliance store to call if they get that model as scrap---

At 20 years old I would not be sinking much into the repair---

Thanks for the info. I've already had the oven door off---wanted to ensure I could do the repair myself IF I found the glass. No problem there. The range isn't needed in my home--its earmarked for a guy whose departing wife cleaned him out. I'll try some of the other suggestions before giving up. Thanks.
