Replacing Glass In Windows

The home that I just purchased was built in the 1830's and has all of the original windows. I would like to keep the home as much as possible to its original. THe windows in the house are enormous and in great condition. There are a few windows that have some broken panes. The windows are all beveled glass. I only want to replace the pane's that are broken. From time to time I can find beveled glass pieces at auctions. Could I take these pieces and have them cut down to fit the pane and would a regular glass cutter (professional)be able to cut the pieces.

The bevel is on the edge. If you cut it the bevel will be gone. Easier to just by a new piece the correct size.
Most glass place wil lprobably refuse to cut the old glas ass well for fear it will break.
