Do a google for the slate puller for a picture, but it's basically a flat bar with hooks on the end to grab nails on a slate roof. You can use it on a shingle roof.
If you do the roof on a warm day the shingles will be very pliable. The only issue you will have is the last row you put on where you need to lift up the shingles left in place.
