Replacing corner windows

Hello. Looking to change a corner window in my 1960s house. Currently there is a 3.5 square post where the two windows meet. The windows are the original aluminum crank open kind (don't know the actual name)

I am looking to replace with impact windows which are heavier and have a thicker frame (3 in.)

I was advised to use a 4 x 4 x .25 inch aluminum square post with clips

* Does that recommendation make sense?
* Might there be other things I should consider?
* Are these posts load bearing?

Any guidance us greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The corner needs support of some kind, not sure why aluminum was suggested. Since you are installing impact glass, I assume you are in hurricane zone??? If there is a lot of salt air, I would avoid aluminum.

Not sure if the pics help but all the windows were made of aluminum. I am actually about 1.5 miles from the water. The new windows and square tube are painted white.

Not sure I understand why the existing post has to come out??????? It is a 4x4 post. Don't know why it has to have clips???
