Replacing chipboards.

My living room windows have a decrative over hang in front of the of them. This creats a hollow space which hides the runners for the blinds. These blinds are fixed into chipboard which covers the brick work in the ceiling.

The chipboard is not strong enough to take the weight of the blinds and is breaking. Can i replace the chipboard with something stronger? Is it easier to plaster the over the brick work and fix the blinds directly into the brick work?

Im just starting to do things myself and need help and step by step guidence?

any help greatly appreciated.

A picture would sure give us some clarity of exactly what you're describing...
