Replacement latches for tilt in sashes

I have the windows that you can tilt in so you can clean the outside part of the glass from inside the house. Well, the other day when I was trying to open them, I broke the little pull on both of the latches on one of my windows. Pretty much the little handle broke off before the latch would open. They have a screw on them that looks like it would be easy to replace both of the latches, but where can I find these replacement parts? Are these parts pretty standard or are they brand specific?

depends on the type of latch. Usually, not a problem to replace. Just go to home depot. Since you have a computer, why not do a little research on your particular brand of window first.

Yes, the screws are super simple to remove and replace.

The parts are brand specific. The only single point supplier for window hardware of all brands is Blaine Window Hardware. They even have an excellent research department if you can't figure out who made your windows (even if they are very old). You can put the old part in an envelope and they'll match it up and send you new one(s).

They have a good online catalog. You might even recognize your part online. They have many more parts than they advertise online. What you describe sounds like a "tilt latch assembly". Check here: http://www.blainewindow.com/catalog/...id=1&pcatid=15 They show 54 pages of tilt latch assemblies.

I was hoping someone would post their name. I have been trying to remember it since I read the original request, but kept coming up blank. They have more window pieces than I knew were ever manufactured since the beginning of time. Thanks for refreshing my me:thumbup:mory too.

Where do I look to get the brand name on the windows? I looked all over and can't find the brand name. All I see is "Temp-Safe, Inc Tempered Safey Glass" on the glass. The house was built in 1996.

I found mine in two places One is on the latch itself, the other is on a metal stick on lable. You have to pull out the sash and it was on the inside runner. I think manufacturers love to hide it.

MDSHUNK,
Man, you have made the internet worthwhile. I gave up 6 years ago looking for some latches for our Acorn windows. This company went out of business years ago. After tons of phone calls over the years I stumbled across a former employee at Acorn. He told me when they shut the plant down, they trashed dumpsters full of latches. Just my luck.
So after I saw your post, I went to the Blaine site and low and behold, that Acorn latch was on the first page. I'll be calling them tomorrow to see if I was just dreaming this. Glad you have a good memory, too.
Many thanks.........
