removing frame to sliding glass door

I am stuck removing the frame posts for a sliding door. The two posts are all that's left. I removed all the glass and some trim. It looks like these two posts have tabs on the bottom which go deep into the plastic. I cannot figure out how to get this out with these tabs. I am thinking about breaking them off. Any thoughts?

removing frame to sliding glass door

Any chance at a picture? I'm having a hard time visualizing the scenario...never heard the term posts and patio door in the smae sentence before, and also wondering what the tabs that go deep into the plastic are all about.

Probably something very simple, just need a better visual/description of what your talking about.

Is the old patio door aluminum, steel, vinyl, or wood? do you happen to know the brand? Was the old door installed with a nailing fin or the old standard brickmold?
