remove pet urine odor
Any suggestions on how to remove cat urine from the heat vent?

Darylh 06-30-2007 10:42 AM

What kind of heat vent are we talking about, forced air, electric??

kathyn 06-30-2007 10:48 AM

Forced air for gas furnace and AC. Have tried pet enzyme odor killer- think the only option is to replace duct.

Yah thats what I would do to just to be safe

Almost impossible to get it all out. Definately replace the vent if you have that option!

Spray dog urine on it, they will cancel each other out. Just kidding:)

Its probably not the actual metal duct but the wood, drywall, carpet, etc around it that is contaminated. The metal should clean up pretty easily.

Natures Miracle (avail. at pet stores) works very well I've found, for cat urine smells.

As "Brik" said, it's probably more than just the duct, but the surrounding porous areas that are trapping the smell. You'll need to treat and area probably 1-2 feet from the edges of the duct, all the way around.

Carpet in the area?
If you have had carpet in the area, that could be it.

We just replaced our carpet and the old cat urine smell from the previous owner is long gone.

But the possibility of it getting into the wood subfloor might be also an issue.
