raised patio

We took out our pool 2 summers ago and back filled the area. Now we want to put a patio in. The problem is the area for the patio is below grade. We will have to raise the grade around the patio when complete. My question is when we put down the base of crushed stone (4 inches) how do I get it to pack down and hold on the edges. Someone suggested building a form from CCA lumber since the patio is square. Any suggestions?? This is a new venture for us as "do it yourselfers". We are planning to lay pavers.

Ayuh,....

Just build the Stone Pad slightly Larger than is necessary,+ add some backfill dirt to support the edges.....

Make sure your slab is well reinforced. The filled in pool is not compacted and will continue to settle (2 years of sitting does not creally compact the soil.

Compactin 4" of base will not make up for the settlement below.
