Question on oil base stain

Consumer's Reports does stain comparisons. Check to see which stains were highly rated and use one of those.

I do not know much about stains but I do know that consumer reports Behr as the #1 paint, so I would put absolutely no trust in what they have to say about paint products.

Question on oil base stain

Flood is good product. I used the CWF clear in the late eighties on unfinished rough wood siding.
Was very liquid, hard to apply without dripping, or lots of "clouds" in the neighborhood when spraying. It was expensive also compared to Thompson water sealer that was popular those days.
I personally have not found a clear material that would protect the beauty of unfinished wood in a long run from darkening and staining.
