Question

Putting Tile over brick fireplace?

I have a fireplace that has what I would describe as a sandstone brick. It is installed like normal brick. The surface is a little more uneven than brick. I am thinking of putting like a skim cote of concrete over the entire service to make it flat. Then put backer board on top of that, then tiling. Any ideas out there?

Thanks
Jim
