Putting The Kids To Work

A little over 5 years ago I built a 'fort' for the kids which included a really cool tubular slide....well...kids have this little side effect....they grow....and outgrew the slide....

So....I put the slide on CL.....took a couple of weeks but it found a good home...I paid almost $600 for it...sold it for $250....I think it was a fair price on both ends...

Nice thing about it being gone....more room.....

And then the kids mentioned that the roof was too low, they couldn't stand up....and they really wanted a tree house....

I said...ok....you tear the main part down and we can build a tree house....

So the took it down.....

One doing the un-screwing...one waving a broom around...and one little sister tormenting her brothers.

Alex was worried that his brother would drop a board on his head (he tried)...so Alex put on his bike helmet....

Guess I'm going to have to help them build the tree house now....at least the Avocado tree is big enough...

Do you have plans or are you a "design on the fly" guy

Look in the Dictionary under "Wing It".....you will see my picture.....

That is what I did for the fort in the original build....

Plus I plan to get the boys heavily involved in the tree house....If I figure it out for them....they won't learn anything....but if I let them 'try' and then learn why it won't work...they will learn a lot more.

I have no doubts these guys are going to be engineers....but I'll be damned if they will be 'stupid' engineers...My oldest boy (10) knows how to pull wire and wire up an outlet....as well as sweat a pipe.

Except for a couple of screws...they did all the work.

DDawg - Great to get the kids involved.

I love seeing kids taking part.

We have always included the drama llama in our work and taught her at a young age the usage of power tools, lawn mower etc. If you start em young the knowledge and confidence they gain will stand them well in life later on.

And may I as the token girl add....your daughter was not tormenting them, she was supervising :)

So....your going to tell me that THIS girl does not torment her brothers? This prima donna? Drama Queen extraordinaire?

lol I see no prima donna....I see an angel.

She looks like one determined little lady. Reminds me of my drama llama - You are going to have your hands full mate when she get older.

One of my biggest regrets over not having kids is the tree house I never built. And the wife has been entirely clear that I am not to build one for myself.

I don't see any type of "fall" restraint in use.
No eye protection either - operating power tools!
Are you providing your help, with any kinds of "benefits" - 401K?...
Did you get a permit for the "demolition"?
Tch, tch, tch!!!
Bad Dog!
:)

Permit? I don't need to stinking permit.....and I don't even have a contractors license...so, THERE!

But, hey....I did provide lunch....as well as a DS break....

Those workers are lucky that I let them sleep in the house....

"fall restraint"?
"eye protection"?
It's not nursery school! It's the "DDawg School of Hard Knocks"!

Very interesting "dawg"!
I can't wait until your "supervisor" finds out about your callous, cavalier attitude! - concerning your help!
You think she gives her brothers grief?!?
You might be sleeping in the "Tree-House"!!!
(Might be a step up from the dog house, though!) :)

You're welcome!

well go ahead and start building it, when she asks, "what the heck are you doing?" tell her you're building a "dog" house ..... if you're gonna get in trouble might as well make it a nice dog house

gma2rjc 05-10-2013 10:13 AM

ddawg16 05-10-2013 12:17 PM
