Popcorn ceiling removal and retexturing

I recently bought a house and it has the popcorn ceiling and wallpaper and I was thinking about taking the ceiling off along with the wallpaper. Then retexturing and painting the area. In total the area including the ceiling is around 1200 spuare feet and I was wondering how much it would cost per square foot to have someone do it? I just want to see if it is worth doing it myself.

A word of caution about the popcorn ceiling. Many of them, depending on the age, contained asbestos. Know what you're dealing with before you start, so you can make an informed decision. If it was applied after the mid 1980's, it probably won't be a problem. Before that, the only way to be sure is to have it tested.

As mentioned, it could depend on when it was installed

Regardless, removal is a messy, messy, job, and very tiring as it's all over your head
And usually you have quite a bit of re-taping and joint compounding to do after removal
It certainly won't be "cheap" by any means
(it's not going to be $150/$175)
But that doesn't mean it wouldn't be "worth it" to have it done

As it's mostly labor, the local rates will have the most impact on price
Best to get a few eyeballs on it and some estimates from local contractors
That will give you a much better idea of what it will cost in your area
