popcorn ceiling

Our popcorn ceiling needs repair. Is there any way to apply the popcorn so that it looks like the rest of the ceiling or will it always look patched.

The answer is "it depends"
Depending on how bad it is, where it is, what size popcorn it is, what repair textures you have available to you, and how good you are at blending the stuff, it might be possible to make an acceptable repair

That's a pointless response to the OP's question. Whether or not they want that texture, that's what they have and therefore that's what needs to be repaired.

Slickshift is dead-on in his response. What I would suggest is practicing on a scrap of sheetrock to get a feel for the gun and adjust as necessary to try to closely match the popcorn texture you've got before you actually shoot the ceiling. If you screw it up, scrape it off and start over.

Depending on the age of the original popcorn ceiling, it could contain asbestos. Use appropriate care if you have to do any scraping.

I was giving an opinion of a topic, that is the general idea of an internet forum. i would have given some adivce on his question but i am not very experienced in repiaring this 'look' as most people in the surrey/ london area who have this on there ceiling, do insist on having it stripped.
