Just a word of caution. Asbestos was NEVER really banned in anything. Most companies voluntarily removed it from their consumer products, but anything that was setting on the shelf before about 1982 could still contain the big A.
Agreed. Asbestos was banned from most products here in 1982, but existing stocks were still allowed to be used up. I was told by a abatement contractor about a popcorn ceiling installed in 1992 that tested positive. Must have been old stock. I came across a 1989 roof with some asbestos cement tiles mixed in with the non-asbestos ones, that was a PIA to strip in the summer heat. In about 2006, I noticed a single unused sheet of corrugated AC roofing still on its original pallet alongside the fibrecement sheet products at a local building supplier. Must have been there since about '83, and been moved a few times since the supplier had built a new warehouse in the '90s, and I'd been there many times without noticing it.
