Oversized lock hole?

Is there some kind of way to solve this issue. The inside hole is fine but the outside hole must have been done crooked or the hole is just larger than the inside side of the door's hole. Now there is a huge crack in the side of the replacement lock.

Do they make something special (like a large plate that goes underneath ??). Whatever came in the basic Shlage kit did not work. Maybe I could drill both sides larger?

Oversized lock hole?

I'd pull it and see if it's an adjustable length model.
If so, use the shorter length and it should set back in correctly.
If not, there are other ways around it as already mentioned.
