outdoor wood furnace
anyone here invest in an ourdoor wood furnace? what are the pros/cons? we just started building and i am considering one. my concerns mostly involve how long to recoup the initial cost $6000.00+
(we have natural gas) and i only have 2 acres with no trees, where am i gonna get wood from!

I think that your fuel source would be your first consideration before buying anything.
In NC, I can get full cords of oak, hickory and persimmon cut, split and stacked for $45. I'm out in the country and everything is pretty cheap there. You don't say where you are. That makes sources difficult to find. When I was up there full time, there were always farmers expanding their fields. We negotiated on the stump. A good sized hicory would run you about $25. Ring i in the fall when the sap's own and harvest the following year. I made it for 4 years at 356 and had to move on. seemed likecold weather was not my forte |

I think you need to shop around, $6K sounds a tad high for a wood furnace, but as Teeter mentioned alot depends on your location.
Here in Mo., depending on what kind & or quality of wood, if it's just dumped or stacked, you can get a cord of wood from $50 to $125.
