Outdoor Wood Deck Painting

I have an outdoor wood deck that I pressure washed and then cleaned with a liquid wood cleaner. Looks fantastic !!!! I applied one coat of white outdoor latex paint and primer in one. I have four gallons of white interior latex paint in my storage room. Can I use this as the finish (second) coat and apply it directly over the first paint and primer coat ????

Sincerely,

Robert

No . Interior paint will not withstand the weather. In fact if you used standard exterior paint it's not like to last very long either on a deck surface and will present an adhesion issue for ever. I have to use a solid color deck stain on one my older decks because the surface is just to different from 25 years of staining. My newer deck has only been treated with penetrating oil stains, looks great only needs stain if every 5 to 6 years compared to the every 2 years .

No but with one coat of paint and primer over bare wood you may want to go buy a few more gallon your going to need it.

Ugh. Yeah. You have a new hobby. When the paint and primer peels make sure you put a real primer before painting.

Forget about the interior paint. In the rain, could just run off and stain the side of your house and your sidewalk.

You would have to wonder why they call it, Interior or Exterior.?

On most of them they even say to use primer on bare wood. Kinda makes you question the primer part of paint and primer doesn't it.

Always though paint an primer in one is more of a marketing gimmick.
