Outdoor motion detection light -- can it be done DIY?

Hey All,

I want to install an exterior light with a motion sensor. I'm wondering if I need to have an electrician install it.

With the high labor costs for electricians, could I do most of the job myself, and just leave the electrical part to the pro? How hard is this job?

sure, it can be done diy. Difficulty depends on several factors, including location you want to put the light, access, siding, type of construction, etc...Could take several minutes or several hours

^ What Mr Chips said.

I've installed quite a few motion-sensor lights over the years. If you have a junction box with a light already installed, you're good to go. Make sure you cut the power, and follow the directions.

There are some adjustments, and some tweaking you'll need to do, but it's all fairly straightforward.

Good luck!

Tell us your experience with electricity. What have you done in the past?
Is this a new installation or is this going in a spot where there is a traditional light already?
From the post's wording, the experience is limited. This does not preclude it being done, it just increases the time and the research you need to do before you pick up a tool.
