Out swing Exterior door?

I live in Ottawa, Ontario, in a 1960s house with an original wood side door, that opens onto a very small landing. I was hoping to gain some space by having a new steel out swinging door installed.
The contractor I talked to today said the water leakage warranty would not apply for out swinging doors. but other then that their were no problems.

I was wondering how big a deal is this possibility of water leakage? if there are any other issues with out swinging doors I need to worry about, and if maybe a fixed aluminium awning above the door might help with the water issue?

Thanks.

The only other possibly issue would be the fact that you couldn't install a storm or screen door if the main door swung outward. Actually if installed correctly I don't believe water leakage will be much of an issue, especially if for a metal door.

We've installed many outswing doors. Only issue has been snow piled up in front.

I've never seen any of the ones I've install leaking. In fact as the wind blows
It trys to close the door not open it like an inswing door will do.

All commercial doors have to open out.

Did he show you anything in writting from the maufacture that says that?

Now if you try to mount an inswing door backwards so it opens out it's going to leak because the threshold will be sloped wrong.

" warranty would not apply for out swinging doors." "Did he show you anything in writting"
Sounds like an old gandy dancer chant...
"Contractor cain't read, contractor cain't write,
How's he gonna tell if the door's hung right?"
Slam it! oomph, slam it! oomph,
Salm it ope' an shut."

I've never heard anything so silly. I have two doors on my own garage that swing out. One on the north and one on the south, so they get blasted by storms from either direction. Both do have magnetic weatherstripping, but neither has ever leaked a drop.

Just make sure you order the door with security hinges (non removable pins).

Out swing Exterior door?

Typically the contractor warrants his own work only. Supplied assemblies like doors, windows etc. are warrantied by the manufacturer against defects. Of course, the warranty generally does not apply if the door or window is improperly installed, and may not apply if the installer is not licensed by the manufacturer to perform the installation. If the installer is not familiar with proper installation procedures for an outswing door, you should find an installer who is, rather than being forced to install an inswing door that you do not want.

Make sure the outside landing is large enough. IMO minimum 4'by 4'. Bigger is better.

Thanks for all the advice, it is much appreciated. I am planning on getting a third quote next week. and I will contact the other contractors about the issues mentioned (pins, threshold, magnetic weather stripping), giving them a chance to clarify their quote.
