Looks like this is gonna happen soon. Congratulations DIY Chatroom. I haven't been here very long, but have enjoyed reading and posting. Anybody have any fond memories or memorable posts?

I realize this is a dumb question but would you give me a definition of what a spammer and a troll are? I have seen posts about both and I have an idea but I'm not sure what they are exactly.

Spammers are selling something--stolen ad space---

Often it's a spam set up with two 'pretend ' members---

Starts with-- EMMA LIAR " I'm decorating my new house and want a carved rosewood bed--does any one here know where to get one online?"

IVAN AUNTSIR--Why, Interesting you should ask that---I saw just what you need at--FAKE IMPORTED JUNK.COM we have fine furnature and other cheap junk---OOPs--I mean ,they have the junk you want.

Trolls are like prank phone call gags from long ago---nonsense or profane posts intended to start a fight or offend people---

Some of the trolls are not so obvious.....they start off easy....then start their BS...

I'm not sure why...but I seem to run into a lot of them.....

Some of the spammers are slick. Since they know that mods only check "new posts", they will post something normal and then go back a few days later and edit and add spam. That way it doesn't automatically get read by a mod.

750,960 is the count if you add up the post for each section that's displayed on the front page. That says about 25% of all post have vanished?

There isn't that much spam here...or maybe there is.

After reading the posts about all the spam I have to ask, how much time do the mods spend dealing with spam? Also, considering the time involved, do the mods get paid?

Why I ask. I volunteered to moderate on a smaller less active site gratis. I'm wondering if won't be sorry if I am taken up on that.
