New riding lawn mower

i'm going to buy a riding lawn mower at the labor sales. Any suggestions or warnings - looking at the troy-bilt's at Lowes

How large is your yard? How many obstacles--trees, beds, shrubs, etc.? Flat or steep? The typical lawn tractor will handle steep hills better, but if your lawn is flat to moderate slope, and/or has lots of obstacles, a ZTR mower is much faster if you can afford it.

not steep hills but not flat, trees, flower beds, lots of obstacles such as dog lot, garden, yard barn, mowing 200x100 minus house site & said obstacles

That's close to 1/2 acre (minus the house). I would go with the ZTR. If you are looking at homeowner quality mowers at Lowe's or Home Depot, there isn't that much difference in price. You could even go with a slightly smaller deck on the ZTR (which would let you get through tighter places) and still mow faster than the lawn tractor with a bigger deck.

My son and I have a part time lawn care business and have a commercial grade ZTR, but I still have my old homeowner lawn tractor that I had prior to starting our business. The old lawn tractor still comes in handy for certain applications, but the ZTR is so-o-o-o much faster.

Good luck.

Ztr

I bought a walk behind commercial 48" Toro about 6 years ago. The mower has mown 2+ acres every week since then and I haven't had a single problem with it. I always recommend that you spend a little more and buy quality.
