New Hardware on Old Doors?
Ok, here is the deal: i have an old house, with old doors, and old locks and knobs (which don't work very well after all these years).
I want to put new knobs and deadbolts on all the exterior doors, but the doors are too narrow (only 1 and 3/8 in. thick). is there anything i can do without having to replace the entire door? Maybe some kind of conversion kit or something? If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, I gladly welcome 'em. |
I believe most Kwikset exterior locks will work on the 1 3/8" doors.

Have you even tryed an interier door knob on it yet?
Does this happen to be a mobil home? That's the thickness door you would expect to find on a camper or mobile home. |
MOst locksets will work on those doors. I do it all the time.
|
That's what I was thinking, but an exterier knob may not work if that's what there trying to do.
|
All standard residential locksets will fit a 1-3/8" thick door.
|
hmm. i have been warned that they won't fit, but i will try to find an appropriate set for the doors. thanks for the advice

Was that person wearing an apron that said that?

They should work. There is different backspaces but most knobs will accommodate that too with some type of modification.
