New bathroom couter stained - help

We've just moved into a new condo and my lovely girlfriend has somehow managed to stain the new bathroom coutertops with some of her products. We've tried to clean with the usual household crap and it has not working. The only thing we found that worked (by accident) is warming up the area using a ceramic based candle but you can see the results in the images I've attached.

Any ideas on how to clean this?

All help & advise is greatly appreciated.

Might try OxyClean on a SMALL areas to see if it works. If you can pinpoint what caused it (hair dye I am guessing?) call a national stain center before throwing too many chemicals at it.

I think it was one of those baskets you get from ikea to organize your stuff. I think she put it on the counter while it was wet and the dye from the basket attached itself to the counter.

I will try the oxi-clean product & follow up. Thank you for the suggestion.

Wow, all it takes to turn an Ikea basket into a toxic mess is a little water? You'd think that exposure to rain and the like would be expected.

Hydrogen Peroxide is any nurse's first approach to stains. It is what OxyClean creates when mixed with water as I remember. The nice thing about OxyClean is you can mix it as a paste.

It should work on organics. It is great for getting things like red wine stains out of cutting boards. You may have to let it sit awhile. And again, always try it, or any approach to stain removal, on a small area first.

I should have mentioned you might call the manufacturer of the countertop if you can find out.

I would "share some kind and loving words" with IKEA about their dye bleeding basket! And, I wonder if that counter and sink didn't get sealed if it stained so easily. Sounds like neither is something your girlfriend could have known about so do not be too hard on her.

As a last resort, and if it is worth the deductible, your insurance might cover a new countertop/sink if you cannot get the stain out.

I have a feeling it wasn't sealed properly either.

Looks to me like it may be an acrylic sink, in which case I don't know why it would be sealed other than a thin gel coat that comes from the mfg. If it is acrylic, I've dealt with acrylic bathtubs before that have been stained with rust from an overhead a/c unit, and the stains were impossible to get out and the entire unit had to be resurfaced.

One thing you might try is a Magic Eraser. Go easy though, as it may scratch or dull the surface.
