Hi All,
I'm a newbie here from the Granite State (New Hampshire). I need to replace the righthand spiral blades from my Craftsman model 247.88790 snow thrower. It is has a 9HP engine, and I think it's made by MTD.
I have a parts diagram and parts list (see the following file
http://home.comcast.net/~cynergyou/CraftsmanParts.pdf) in my user manual that I've been looking at. The part I need to replace is labeled #37 (the "Spiral Assembly - RH").
I thought that I could simply unscrew four bolts (labeled #15 on the diagram) that hold the two bearing housings in place, and then just pull the assembly free.
However, the impeller shaft (labeled part #27 on the diagram) is stuck and I can't seem to pull the assembly loose to replace the spiral blades.
Does anyone have experience in working with snow throwers? If so, what is the correct procedure to disassemble this housing so I can remove and replace the spiral blades. Do I also have to disassemble the bearing house (labeled #10 in the diagram) for the impeller shaft before I can pull the whole thing loose? Or is there a better way to remove the old spiral blades?
Also, do I need to regrease the bearings before I reinstall them? If so, what kind of lubricant/grease should I use (keep in mind I use it at low temperatures)?
Thanks in advance!
Cynergy
