Need help finding parts to replace mailbox lock.

Hello. I am looking to change the lock in a multitenant building with old 1960'ish mailboxes and I wanted to change the mailbox lock for a unit.

I am missing screws for the door of the unit to connect back to the mailbox lock.

I checked around and it looks like the USPS 2900 series is sort of what I have but with a silver front and the one I saw was a brass front.

Am I correct in that it looks like the screws included are to connect the back piece to the mailbox or are these the front mounting screws I need? Mine happens to have a silver front though and not brass front.

Your locksmith's shop will have or can order what you need and save you lots of guessing and running around. You can install yourself.

That is the picture of the lock I need. I don't want to purchase the doors but need the 2 screws mounting the lock to the door.

The only difference is that mine is an aluminum exterior door and the other locks inside appear to be aluminum as well.

Apparently salsbury had an aluminum version but was rated poorly by the BBB so I prefer to get the other one I saw which has top rated sellers.

I don't think anyone will notice the slight different color variation of the lock piece.

But what size do those screws for the mailbox look like and where can I get them? The mailbox lock seems to be available on the internet but I don't know if the screws in the above link (which has the rear cam which I don't need) can use those 2 included mounting screws to install this lock?

Home Depot and hardware stores like that don't seem to sell this lock, and the ones which do seem to be pricier than the $15 price on the net for this lock.

That is exactly what I don't want to do which is bad security.

In fact I just referenced the ebay part # and that seller was unknown even though his price for the unit was well below what other known authorized sellers were getting and mine needed an aluminum front piece. The mailboxes are apparently of an older design but the locks apparently can still be found.

I was just talking where these parts can be found in general, such as the OEM Supplier of the orginal locks or replacements, as well as which type of dealers sell these, not based on a location search.

Does anyone know if its possible to just replace the screw and rekey the maillock with a cylinder purchased from an appropriate vendor?

I was told I needed a 6-32 flat head screw with 3/8" length. Does that seem like the appropriate size based on the link I showed?


I realize this is just a postal mail lock of old design and not anything sophisticated and just entails basic locksmithing knowledge and knowing which screw to replace it with, and perhaps also knowing which OEM suppliers provide such and the like.

I think the right time has come to change of your mailbox. Instead of thinking to replace the mailbox lock, you should buy a new mailbox from the mail company. It would be much better.

Note the post is 4 months old. I suspect the mailbox has a lock by now.

" the mailbox has a lock by now" or there's a whole bunch of mail waiting to be picked up at the PO. Ya know, I think I wooda tooken a screw out of one the other locks gone down to hard ware store and see what they had. Unless this was some bizarre postal screw or top secret government screw. Just like the gumment always tryin to scr... well.like you said this is an old post. "Old post"... "mail box"... get it? Man I kill myself sometimes. Usually folks wish I would.
