Natural stone veneer

Has anyone here had experience with installing natural stone veneer?
I have watched instructional videos on installation of the cultured stone products but havent found any addressing natural stone. Maybe the techniques would apply to either but I know my natural stone is heavier so just want to be sure.
Thanks

See if this is something you're interested in. I've received samples from my rep and I can say, it's not cheap cultured stuff. Very nice.

Thanks for the link Angus, I took a look and they do offer some nice natural stone. I actually already have my stone which I get on BLM land here in my area. Just need to get some pointers on installation.

BTW...your work looks great!

Installing natural stone

Jer,

Natural stone thin veneer is installed similarly to manufactured stone. Check out installation instructions at my website, stoneyard.com.

The basic instructions are:
1. double wrap with construction paper
2. install moisture control barrier
3. install metal lath
4. apply scratch coat
5. apply stone to scratch coat with type S or N cement.
6. joint the stone
7. clean and seal if desired.
7.5 enjoy your unique stone project for a lifetime.

Send me pictures when you are done.

Good luck

Jer,

Check with manufacturers recommendations. The Norstone I spoke of is installed just like tile for indoors applications.
The manufacturer is pretty much the last word when it comes to your particular installation. Best advice I can give is follow what they say to do.

I want to have a stone veneer on part of my house. In working up the detail I ran into a problem. I made a 4" step in the 12" foundation wall to accomodate the stone. My problem is the sill is 4" back from the face of the framed wall. It looks to me that at that point I have to change the direction of the floor joists and cantelever them the 4" past the face of the sill. How far back do the cantelevered joists have to go from the outside edge of the wall?

Hey John, I have installed many faux stone veneer's for clients in the past.

I got my products from http://www.fauxpanels.com/. they have some great quality products there, as my clients always love the way they look.

You may want to check out their Installation page, as they have many videos and guides for installing their artificial stone products that may help you.
