Mudding Question...

I am putting up a new range hood over stove. It was vented into my garage. I bought a range hood that doesn't need to be vented. So i filled the hole with drywall and put compound over it. My question is do i have to prime the compound or can i just throw up range hood over it? Is compound good forever if not primed or painted or can you just leave it? Thanks for responding to my question.

You might consider throwing some primer on that so it doesn't absorb smells as readily.

Mudding Question...

I would definitely prime it even if you just use some left over paint. I would not leave it bare mud. Bare mud will reactivate and become mud again if wet. You might need to wash it sometime.
