Structurally speaking, what is meant by "Moment"?

Termite 01-18-2009 11:16 AM

Simply stated, rotational forces. That can be applied to the bending forces in a beam or joist, or the wind load/shear forces that a wall resists.

"Moment" means twisting force, but in a discussion of structural strength, the word "Moment" could also refer to the "Moment of Inertia" of a beam.

If you could provide us with the text the word is used in, it would help a lot.
