Mold on new deck?

I have a 1-year old deck, pressure-treated pine, which I stained 3 months after construction. Now I see a lot of areas that are discolored (black) which can only be growths of mold.

Can that be the case, so soon? I think I may have stained it too thin in areas, because where I edged (perhaps thicker), they don't appear. Also, important to note that it only appears in the areas that are exposed to sunlight. The bottom deck that has the top deck as a roof does not have the growth (which I would have thought to be the opposite).

Do you think maybe the thin layer of OIL BASED stain could be the culprit?

I also have applied Mold Armor and scrubbed it with a hard-bristle brush, and now the deck in these areas looks pretty white (almost like I scrubbed the stain off of it).

Any help appreciated. Could it be something other than mold??

Thanks!!!

Mold on new deck?

is this particular spot under a tree? if yes, falling leaves can stain your wood (speaking from my personal experience).

Mold on new deck?

Always best to include where you live in your profile, so people do not have to keep asking.
In your case it will be to try and see if you let it dry long enough.
