My husband owned an auto repair shop for 16 years. He has passed away and now I have all of his professional hand tools. I don't want to sell them piece by piece. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to sell them in one shot? I also have so many new parts, any ideas on those?
If I donate can I write it off on my taxes. Thank you.
You can sell them by advertising in, the local newspaper, Craig's list, Ebay, notices in supermarkets, local churchs and synagogues, etc.
I guess you could donate them but you would need to find a recogized charity that would accept them.
You would get more money through a sale but you need to be careful who you dealt with. If you could sell them through aquaintainces, it would be safer.
I have been a professional auto tech for 27 years. My tool value is quite large and diverse. I would suggest contacting an old mechanic friend of his and see if he can look at the tools and give you a major list of types and brands. Then list them on Ebay or even a local paper for all. Maybe he could even give you a ballpark price to start.
