Love old homes

Bought old home in Selma,Al abought a year ago. Home was built by Gen. Hardy in 1857. This is one of the most Historic homes in the area love it but the cost of restoration far exceded my budget. I've been in the construction biz. for over 30 years, this home has been the most challenging and fun and I would love to buy them all in the area but can't afford to. If you love old homes and historic areas would love to hear from you

Hi Mikey
I've lived in two 1800s homes
They have a character you can't get in a new home at any price
But then, they have challenges you can't even imagine if you've only worked on newer homes
:)

House in Selma

Hey, Mikey. We are moving to Selma later this year. I've been looking at some of the historic properties online. We've remodeled one old home where we live now. Don't know if I'm up to tackling it again, but still love the old houses! Full of character, and just right for displaying antiques. Refinishing furniture has been my hobby over the years, but I've sold most of my good pieces to make room for other hobbies. Keep working on the old house.

I love old homes too.

although old homes around here were built in 1950.

but I dealt with older homes in Portland Oregon.
Loved it.

My last house in Ohio was built in 1908. Had beautiful Oak built-ins and prism cut leaded glass all over. Pretty, but not energy efficient. I had fun shimming a lot of boards while doing some remodeling inside to match the "real" 2- by lumber. Was worth it in the end though.

Wish I could buy and restore one of these here in NW Alabama. Thought about checking on a job the guy I worked with/for last summer turned down. Older house that had been moved. Not sure how old tis house is as I never saw it. He was told he could work on it a little at a time, no big hurry. I think he was scared of it.
