we went to FOX lumber. a building supply place. to look at cabinets.

they had a lot of nice stuff. wandering around, i found the scratch & dent area.

this was sitting there. i just couldn't believe what they wanted for it. and because of that, i nearly passed on it. but it told me to take it home.
it does have some small scratches on it, but so did the same displace model, and they were hard to see on the display hood.

so, for $50 , i thought, what the hell.

i put a plug on it, and it works just fine. and is very powerful

i plan to install it today = hang it and elec. i am not going to do the vent just yet.

You need a bigger one. It dosen't quite hide all of your budwieser box there.:whistling2:

It's a beauty...Would a compound buff out the scratches?

Fix'n it 10-06-2013 12:23 PM

sure, but it is somewhat of a brushed finish. so......
and i have to look closer, but i don't see a plastic coating/film. that would be too easy though.

googling, its a $700 hood. for $50, i don't mind the scratches.

Yeah. It gives it character...

Try some Noxon on it(in an inconspicious place) that's what I occassionally use on my SS sink; it makes it look brand new.

I was sitting here trying to figure out why you paid 50 dollars for a case of beer and Bud at that then I realized you meant the hood. Just kidding. Awesome find.

got er installed, mostly. idk how high it should be, so i just guessed. 65" from subfloor. looks high from afar. but when at the range, it seems fine.

It looks great installed. You did good.

the pic doesn't do it justice. just wait till the cabinets and backsplash are in.
i haven't tried looking for the scratches, trying to forget about them. but they aren't really seen, least not yet.

You came out smelling like a rose. I seen a fox lumber once. It was on Cicero around Oak lawn.

yeah, thats what i'm say'n. if i paid full price for it (i wouldn't) you guys wouldn't even know about it = no brag'n rights there.

thats the one i was at. which, btw, burnt pretty badly about 2-3 years ago.

Yes it looks high but I think distance is fine.
You have installed properly.

Two Knots 10-08-2013 12:12 PM

It only looks high because there are no cabinets surrounding
the hood...once the cabinets are installed and it's viewed in
it's totality -- it will be perfect.
Top cabinets are generally
installed 18" off the countertops. (we did ours at 17)

If you put a piece of tape at the bottom of where your
cabinets are going to end you'll get an idea of what
it will look like...and if you tape newspaper to the wall
the size of your cabs that will be flanking the fan you'll
get even a better idea.

I'm a very visual person, and often tape newspaper to
the wall after I design a piece that we're going to make...
so I can see how the size looks in the room.

Are you making your cabinets?

it is up there temporarily. just to use the light, and get it out of the way, and look at my score

some time or another there will be tile of some kind going there. with the hood over it.

i am getting RTA cabinets from 1 of 2 building supply places around here. we have 2 picked out, just have to pick and order.
seems RTA cabinets are "par" these days. unless you are spending $30,000 for a kitchen my size.
