Leveling Interior Doors

Several of my interior doors keep closing on their own. I've had the ghostbusters and the alien-ators check the house and it's clear.

How do I go about leveling the doors so that they stay put?

Please, treat me like a first-grader and explain step by step, ok?

There's a bunch of different ways, depending on why they are that way

You need to find out if it's your doors, hinges, walls, or door casings

First off, use the longest level you have (4 ft if you have one), and put it against each and every side of the doorway "arch", on your left and right as you stand in the door

It will probably help to write down what you find, unless everything is all square

Thanks for the info. They weren't that way until they were removed to allow for the installation of carpeting. Hope I can get them back into line.

Even if you your door's are perfectly plumb and level they are still most likely going to continue making your house feel like its possessed. More often than not its the air movement in the house that closes door's but either way there is an easy fix. Just pull out the hinge pins just one at a time so you can leave the doors in place, now take the pin and hammer out to the garage. lie the on the concrete and give it whack with the hammer in the on the pin then put it back the door. What your doing is putting a slight bend in the pin to make the hinge a little stiffer and most of the time that's all that's needed. Now if your door's are really out of plumb you are going rehang them or chisel the hinges over and have crooked looking door but I doubt that's the case. Good luck,
