leak in drainage pipe

I have been noticing an earthy smell in the dining room and bedroom above dining room for as long as I can remember. So I started digging today and discovered a partially disconnected elbow in the drainage system.

Is this enough evidence to support a smell in the 2nd floor bedroom?

Are the fittings supposed to be glued or loose fitted?

I guess you mean the down spout adaptors.
I never glue them.
Sometimes they need to be removed to rod out the drain lines.
It's not causing your "earthy" smell on the second floor.

Just curious on why not glued... Attached is a picture of the driveway and the area above where the underground pipe is located appears to be sinking.
