Lattice infront of neighbors satellite dish?

I'm putting a deck on in a few weeks next to the 6' fence between us and our neighbors. The deck will be nearly 2' off the ground which will result in the fence being too low for our tastes while standing on the deck.

I would love to put 2' of lattice ontop of the fence, but the neighbors satellite dish is attached to his wall directly beside and level with the top of the fence.

Will this interfere with his signal? Any other ideas for privacy? Should I ask him to move it?

Who's fence is it? Legally speaking? Is it on your property or his? Sounds like its your, right? So, in the USA, you can put whatever your locality allows on your fence. Your neighbor doesn't have a right to clear space above your fence.

That being said, it would be neighborly of you to let your neighbor know about your plan so he can move it. If you're pals, offer to move it for him.

It's row housing, and I think the fence is on property line (or close to it). I asked him if it was his fence because I'm going to move a gate further down the fence before I build the deck. He didn't know who's it was and said it's fine to move the gate.

I think I'll do what you say and offer to move it for him. It might be the easiest thing to do.

Try holding a piece of lattice up and see if it interferes with the reception. I had a similar problem a couple of years back and asked a satellite guy about it. He told me that the signal does not point to the centre of the dish but rather comes from higher up. Turns out he was right because it didn't seem to have any effect on the signal.

Geez, my diagrams suck!:(

oops, sorry. Pic was too large

What you say is true, CC. If you were shooting pool, it would called a 'bank' shot.
If the LNBN (?) is 20 degrees below the dish center line, the signal would be coming in at 20 degrees above the center line.
I have traveled in various places with my trailer and have had lots of practice setting up my satellite dish. Sometimes several times in a week.
One problem with repositioning the dish, would be if there is enough slack in the cable to do so!

Yep Wildie! Most people, including me, never would guess that though. Glad the OP made the post. The only thing I can think of is heavy snow build in the winter months but a quick sweep with a broom fixes that. I hope the OP lets us know the results.

PS..Got time for a game of pool??

Had a peek at the dish tonight. I may be able to get lattice on there without disturbing the signal thanks to the tip CanadaClub posted. If that doesn't work, I may try a decorative lattice that 'swoops' down in the middle.

Might look ugly, so I'd have to hold it up first...
