laminate floor, basements and asbestos tile
Hi all, I know there have been many threads on laminat floor in the basemnet. I hear about 6mil, vapor barrier, sealer and cushion under the laminate if the floor is concrete.
My question is the I have asbestos tiles in my basement and have no desire to take it up. I want to put laminate flooring in the basement so i have these questions:
1) do i need a 6 mil vapor barrier over the asbestos tiles?
2) I am assuming I don't need a sealer since it's not over concrete. However, there are some areas where the tiles have come up, how would i address those areas, or do i need to?
3) Are there any advantages/disadvantages buying laminate floor with preinstall cushion, or should i buy them separately? OR does not really matter?
4) Do I need to glue them in the basement?
Thanks, after much internal debate, I think laminate floor is the way I will go, but if someone can convince me otherwise, i would reconsider. I did look at the armstrong cushion step, but it cost too much, and i wouldn't know how to install it myself. Ceramic tiles are no good, cuz I would need to take up the absestos tiles
The install sequence would be to follow the manufacturers instructions. Many laminate floors are not recommended for below grade.
The padding on the back I find to be very convienient.
