Ladder "footing"

I have an old aluminum extension ladder that has the original hinged shoes at the base.

I noticed the newer ladders have better - larger, wider, better traction shoes.

Are those parts interchangeable? Can I buy two of those and replace the ones I have, or are those different from manufacturer to manufacturer, model to model?

Concider buying ladder levelers instead. You remove the old feet and these just bolt to the sides of the ladder. They have large pads for feet and there adjustable so the ladder can be sitting on rough or sloped ground and still stay level.
Lowes and Home Depot both have them.
