Kodak camera- dead battery or otherwise?

People,

Have a kodak easy share V1233. the battery says 3.7 volts, but when I put my voltmeter on the terminals, I get about 4.01V. (it has 3 terminals, so I picked 2 at random for the voltage value).

Now, the problem- every time I push the ON button to turn the camera on, it lasts only about 5 seconds, then shuts itself off. The battery image shows about 40% charge, I figure. The camera just wont stay on.

Anybody know whats going on?

Thanks

Do you have the AC adapter? If it powers on with the AC adapter, then the problem is the battery.

Has it been dropped? The lens could also be getting stuck causing the camera to power back down.

Are you using Li-ion or Alkaline batteries? Li-ion are preferred. Alkaline can cause problems.

Its a Li battery. No dropped. lens does come out for 2 seconds or so, usually, then pops back in and camera shuts off.. Weird.

Only thing I have for it is the cord that I use to plug it in the front of my computer, I believe its a usb port type. Its the one I connect the camera to copy photos/import, and stuff. Is that the same as an adapter/does the same function?

OK, rock, just plugged the camera to the adapter that alows it to plug into the usb port on computer, and right away, the 3 buttons on the top of the camera continously flash on/off very fast. about 2 flashed every second. Nothing else happens. Even when I push the ON button.

found the owners manual online, and it seems to indicate the top 3 butons are "charging lights". They flash forever. Is the camera dead?

That would be my guess. Kodak cameras were never the best ones, when the company started to go downhill, same with their printers, when they were trying to grasp because of their last dying breaths.

Get a Canon. If just casual shooting, a $70 pocket 8mp will do. Anything more like wanting to do pro type shooting, or more features, you can look at $200 or more.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?

The AC adapter allows you to plug the camera into a wall outlet and power the camera without the use of batteries. If you don't have one, then there's no point in buying one for what could be a dead camera.

How long have you had the camera? Kodak has a 1yr warranty that applies from the purchase date.

Its been years. maybe 5-6. The camera never came with an adapter, I think. Did fine without it for many years. Not getting one now with what Im facing. Thanks, Man.

I would run down to BatteriesPlus with it and have them check the battery for you. It really sounds like the battery has gone south. They will have the right one there also so you can verify that there is nothing wrong with the camera.
