Unhappy jimbobrew

I have 4 louvered roof vents (about 4" high) on my 4:12 roof, strung out just below and along the ridge. I have soffit vents between every other truss in the 2' wide soffit. Last winter I had an accumulation of over 3 to 4' of snow on the roof for the most of the winter. This covered my roof vents, and icicles starting building up on most of my soffit vents. Since the roof vents were covered and useless, I am thinking of installing louvered vents at the ridge on each gable end. Will this work? Also I seem to get more icicles on and below the fascia than my neighbors. Any suggestions here?

Do you have enough insulation in your attic? Is the hatch to your attic insulated?

Just a few things to check.
