It has nothing to do with electrical knowledge and only to do with these three gentlemen.

Sorry, folks, membership in this club is restricted to those members who 'owe' me.

Not one of you three have stepped up. And from what I've seen in another subforum on this site I doubt that any of you are shy. No, it's more like you think you own that forum.

Jimmy. . .? You there. . .?
In order to resolve this conundrum, let's say you have just drawn the short straw.

Are you up to it? If not, just bow out.

OK, here goes: You have as many guesses as you need to figure out which one of the two types talked about in the link below is you. Take as much time as you need.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect
"As Kruger and Dunning conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others" (p. 1127).[2] The effect is about paradoxical defects in cognitive ability, both in oneself and as one compares oneself to others."

You don't have to post your answer - it's enough that you know who are.

Interesting....

I would say that the Dunning–Kruger effect apply to quite a few people here....in fact, to one level or another to all of us.....

Interesting....never heard the term before....but have sure seen it....and been somewhat that way myself in a few cases (ok, maybe more than a few).

Just making an observation while we wait for the outcome....

There is already an outcome for this thread that I could not have foreseen. I'll post back after I write it up and then I am just about done with these three.

I suspect that these tendencies will be trumped by the Peter Principle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle
Anything that works will be used in progressively more challenging applications until it fails. ...in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence", meaning that employees tend to be promoted until they reach a position in which they cannot work competently.

One of the reasons I have time for this forum is that I tried to blow the whistle on one of these characters.

Here's my take on this turn of events:

I should say at this point that I've never thought of myself as being particularly brave.
So, somehow, in this thread, the '3 mouseketeers' did absolutely nothing and I did very little, and yet now it comes across like they are hiding under their respective beds and I am looking like Vin Diesel and his bunch of Necromongers.

How is this possible???
That can't have been their intention and it certainly wasn't mine.

Anyway, talking about Men Behaving Badly, Jim Port may have a reason to be gunshy.
This guy played such a hard game of NIGYSOB that I talked to some lawyers at the place where I work out to see if I could sue him for defamation and libel.
Turns out I couldn't because I didn't have what the legal community calls 'damages'.
Maybe next time. . .

If you are going to continue to air this in public at least have the courtesy to let everyone know what is going on.

These three members in particular seem to me to be treating, or have treated, this forum as their private property rather than as a public forum. Officially, this kind of situation is called The Tragedy of the Commons.

It would be none of my business but for their personal attacks or offensive behavior directed at me. I would prefer to use what energy I have in helping the OP rather than defending myself - but - that's life on Internet forums.

Perhaps the problem is now solved, perhaps not. If they had responded we might have been able to talk this out as adults without this turning into a free for all.

We may still be able to.
