Interior door locks all broken?

Just moved into a rental and all the interior doors have the same kind of schlage non-key locking push button door handles.
The problem is that the handle on either side of the door releases the lock.

I took one off the door and put it together off the door with all parts as tight as they can be, and it's the same. The push button makes two metal posts protrude on either side of the main shaft, but a twist from either side makes them pop back in. It's virtually every door in the house, so I doubt they were broken.
What could it be?

ALL interior doors? Bedroom, bathroom, and closets?
Did you ask your landlord?
It might be intentional. Maybe he got a deal on them.

Interior door locks all broken?

I didn't ask, but I suspect it was sth like that.
I took a broken one apart completely together with the only working one, and the only discernable difference was that the two posts that protrude when the lock button is pushed are bent slightly in opposite directions whereas they are perfectly straight on the working one.
If I had to guess, it could be that somebody tried really hard to twist the outside handle open when the door was locked.
Since they were all broken, maybe he bought them second hand already like that

...or previous tenants tried to fix them. You had said it was every door not working but it looks like you found a working one and found the problem.

It sounds like you found some "quality" locks from (you know where) and you will need to replace them with REAL locks. The "forked" lock I bought did the same thing the first day I put it in a door that was simply snug! It does not take any force at ALL to twist the forks. Look at the lock before buying to assure the center shaft is a SOLID bar, not the forked crap.
