Insulation on plasterboard

I am putting in a new bathroom upstairs.
I want to insulate the floor of the bathroom to reduce the noise heard by the people downstairs. The floor is wooden floorboards on 8inch wooden joists with plaster board nailed on the ceiling.
Can I place any type of insulation straight on the top side of the plasterboard as I don't want to take the whole bathroom floor up? Do I have to support the insulation or can it rest on the plasterboard? I need it for sound deadening rather than heat properties. Many thanks Chris

As long as the plasterboard is properly secured then you should be able to put insulation there.

Is there going to be a bathtub installed?

How long are the 8" floor joists?

Insulation on plasterboard

Hi there.
No bath tub. Only a shower, Basin and toilet. I thought I could take a few floorboards up and slide the insulation along the top side of the plasterboard.
Bathroom is about 10 foot by 10 foot. What do you think would be the best light weight sound proofing material?
Many thanks

Chris

Fiberglass insulation should be the least expensive.

I will also be looking for some "sound" insulation, and one thing I am planning on looking into is the material used in recording studios to deaden sound, rather than insulation.
As I haven't looked into it much yet, I don't know if it will be more or less expensive or if it will be more or less effective than insulation.
My guess is that in both cases, it will prove to be more, rather than less.

If you are interested in looking into this, here's a place to start your search:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/catego...nal_Audio.html

If you find anything interesting and/or make a decision, please report back so we can all learn from this.

thanks.
