Insulation Material Costs??

Hello, I wanted to finish my basement ceiling. I wanted to put one layer of insulation (r-13) in my ceiling. My ceiling dimensions are 18' x 20x'. I KNOW THIS IS SIMPLY A BALLPARK ESTIMATE...but how much, generally, would this cost me???

Why do you want to insulate you basement ceiling? Is it for sound? - If that is the case, the R-vaule is as worthless as a pink cat. There are materials like Roxul that are good for sound and still insulate. Nothing is a cheap as fiberglass, but it is only a mediochre insulator.

If you are concerned about heating/cooling, you can probably be more effective modifying your supply AND returns.

yes...it is mainly for sound. I know insulating a basement ceiling is less energy efficient than insulating the walls...thats not a issue...I want to eliminate sound coming from my first floor.

I have found insulation (kraft faced r-13 batts) to be about .24 per square foot (HD big box store), R19@ .46, R30 @ .77. We also have to do some rigid(r30) due to space contraints and that stuff starts getting expensive.

I just got a bid to insulate my house (approx 2k foot remodel). Insulation dude says $2003 (delivered / installed). I priced the material the best I could at HD and came up with about $1700+. I asked the company how much for just the insulation....just under 1600, not delivered. They'll do it in about a 1/2 day, it would take me "longer". I will however miss out on the inhalation of the fiberglass particles.....

WOW!! 24 cent per sq. foot!! That's what I need! Where can you generally find prices like that??

home depot / lowes cost for R-13 kraft faced. The plastic wrapped stuff is approx .32 / sq ft. That's material only.

Installed is a bit more. However, what I was trying to show with the quote I got for my house is that the installation is cheap compared to the hastle of getting that bulky material home and the pain (and itching) of installation.

And why are you going with fiberglass? Why not have an insulator install cellulose?

i dont know...just thought it would be easiest
