I'd like someone to build me a house...it needs to have walls, windows, and doors....how much would that cost?

Just think...
Your future pool contractor is probably surfing the internet right now, eating cheetos on the couch, and wondering where his next paycheck will come from. He's probably scratching his head wondering why the other pool contractors are so busy and he isn't. Wait!!! Here's someone online that's looking for a pool builder just like him!

Your best bet is to solicit some bids. Any number that anyone on this site gives you will be a shot in the dark at best.

Anyone know what to do with a dead horse carcase?

when your are talking about such a big project... it is a different ball game...to be fair... both sides need to show respect to each other to ensure a successful deployment... it is not a one way street... contractor cannot think he is so good and so busy therefore it is the owner who is begging him for the job..... owner cannot think he is paying ... so the contractor is the one who need to bag him for the job...

I see it happens both cases... like I know a guy who do landscape...etc... I almost hire him... until he broke his promise of arranging to take me to show his previous job in a particular week... he didn't call me for that week... so I call him the next week... and basically tell him to get lost...
if he is too busy to eager to do the job... then forget it... I totally understand the owner point of view... that he don't want someone who is not eager for the job to do the job...

but posting on internet and get quote..etc.. is really a little bit does not make sense...

Eager to do the project is a lot different than eager to bid the project or search out leads, especially internet leads.

Here is what a competant contractor is going to ask first after walking the site and discussing what you want:

What is your budget?

If they don't, or you don't have one, then realistically, you will not get what you want or expect.

WOW its funny how there really is 2 sides to every view.

Contractor 1: Waits for the phone to ring with a customer that wants a pool built.

Contractor 2: This contractor is not lazy so he checks the website to see if there is any work while he waits for the phone to ring with a customer that wants a pool built.

Answer me this ?

Do you really think that a good contractor doesn't have someone that can solicit business by checking the website for 1 min. in a day or that they wouldn't take 1 min. out of their own day and check themselves to potentially make $5,000 ?

If I tell a contractor to look at a picture of a pool, tell me what he thinks the pool should roughly cost, and he can't even ball park it or write up an complete estimate, is this the pool EXPERT that I want ?

Why should I beg for someone to do my work ?

When I need my car washed, I post it.
When I need my yard cleaned, I post it.
When I can offer work, I post it.

WHEN I NEED A DEAD HORSE CARCASE DISPOSED OF... I POST IT.

Because when someone comes to me, they have already shown me that they want it.

I've noticed that you haven't posted over at GardenWeb like I suggested. That's a shame. Lots of people who've had pools installed over there. Some have pictures and prices. One would think a "non-spammer" would want information from a pool site as opposed to a general discussion one.
