I removed shower caulk and see lots of brown particles. Is this water damage??

I own a condo that was built in the 1940s. The tub is the original. I removed some caulk in my tub in order to re-caulk it. There is a small layer of brown dirt-sized particles behind the caulk in the seam. It is easy to vaccum up.

Is that a sign of water damage done to the walls behind the shower?

Should I just re-caulk it and forget it? Or is it a sign of mold?

Hard to tell without pictures. If water has gotten into the wall behind you re just going to seal it in with caulk and it will do further damage. You need to start by fixing the source of the problem.

The caulk I removed was cracking in the seam. I removed the caulk in order to let it dry for a few days. However, the brown dirt-particles that came out were already completely dry.

I'd rather see dry dirt/dust coming out of the joint than anything wet. Unless you see any potential issues on the other side of the wall or below it then just clean it up and caulk away.
