I hate glass block...

What are my alternatives for secure basement windows that will ventilate also. We now have plain old wood windows that swing in from the top.

Thanks,

Steve

I have seen those louvered widows used in similar areas. but I hate them even more then glass block! I to have a similar situation in a home and have yet found my solution. I have temporally taped together glass block and have them on the inside sill I have since the inside walls are finshed off. From the outside the windows looks very secure. But I no longer have the ventilation without putting the block off blocks down.

I'm thinking of welding up simple window bars for the basement. I'll post pictures when I get around to it. Bolt throughFlat stuck on top an bottom to attach with round bars vertical (may look like a prison but so what? I'll space wider than 4 inches). My windows open in, and the full size screens would allow great ventilation in the summer.
